Aiming to raise awareness of the importance of environment protection and to encourage pupils to get actively involved in environmental projects that benefit their local communities, at the start of the school year INA and Novi list launched a contest to award three best environmental projects developed by kindergartens, primary schools, high schools and dormitories. Applications were open until the end of October and a total of 57 school environmental projects from all parts of Croatia were submitted. The three-member jury comprising of Koraljka Vahtar-Jurkovic, D.Sc., head of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County’s Department of Construction and Environmental Protection, Snjezana Posjepal Tobijas, head of the Sustainable Development and Environment, Health and Safety at the Rijeka Oil Refinery, and Bruno Loncaric, head of Novi list’s special projects, chose the lucky winners, thanked all who applied and praised the submitted projects and schools.
The first prize of HRK 7000 was split between two schools:
- Velika Mlaka Primary School for the project Vax Wrappers for Food
- Pula Technical Scool for the project Navis
The second prize of HRK 5000 was split between:
- Podravsko Sunce Centre for Education and Rehabilitation from Koprivnica for the project Classroom under the Mulberry Tree
- Krizevci Kindergarten for the project 1001 Tomatoes
The third prize of HRK 3000 was split between:
- Malinska – Dubasnica Primary School for the project Downy Oak (Quercus pubescens)
- First Susak Croatian Gymnasium in Rijeka for the project Sustainable Primorje Garden
