INA announces new commercial gas discovery

Zagreb, December 20, 2024 – INA has made a significant new gas discovery in the Drava-03 exploration area. At the Obradovci-5 well, located in Virovitica-Podravina County near the town of Zdenci, testing of the deepest B6 interval yielded a daily gas flow rate of approximately 144,000 m³, while the B4 interval produced around 98,000 m³ per day, as limited by the testing equipment. The initial estimate of discovered resources ranges between 120 and 150 million cubic meters of gas.

The well, drilled to a final depth of 1,817 meters, was completed in September of this year. Following an analysis of the commercial potential of the discovery, the next steps will include obtaining a production license and constructing a connection pipeline. INA plans to bring the well into production by the end of 2028, beginning with the deepest B6 interval.

“Given the significance of this discovery and the importance of domestic gas production for the security of supply for citizens and businesses, INA is collaborating with the Ministry of Economy to expedite the permitting process. In addition to significantly enhancing Croatia’s gas supply security, this discovery will provide additional revenue for the state and local communities through production sharing, mineral royalties, and other fees paid by INA as the investor,” said Josip Bubnić, Executive Director of Exploration and Production at INA.

Following the Veliki Rastovac-1 discovery, this marks the second gas discovery in the Drava-03 exploration block, part of an intensive exploration campaign in the Pannonian Basin initiated by INA four years ago.

Over the past five years, INA has invested approximately €450 million in oil and gas exploration and production. The exploration activities in the Drava-03 block will conclude with the drilling of the fifth exploration well, Veliki Rastovac-2 Duboka, scheduled for January 2025.
