INA and MOL close the sale of 39 service stations in Slovenia to Shell as part of OMV Slovenija takeover

  • The transaction, which was closed in line with the terms that had been disclosed on 9 March 2023, comes in the framework of INA’s and  MOL’s recent takeover of OMV Slovenija
  • MOL Group, with INA as a Group member, is aiming to position itself as the preferred choice for all customers in Slovenia, and aspires to be a convenient retailer that provides more than just fuel by offering high-quality coffee, tasty hot dogs, and the chance for smaller purchases
  • Upon completion of Rijeka Refinery Upgrade Project, INA will become the first-choice fuel supplier of all MOL Group’s service stations in Slovenia

Murska Sobota, 28 August 2023 – MOL Group signed on 9 March 2023 the sales and purchase agreement with Shell in Slovenia and has closed the transaction successfully today. It covers overall 39 service stations – 19 from MOL Slovenija and 20 from the former OMV Slovenija, now MOL&INA network. The transaction was a condition set by the European Commission for MOL Group’s recent takeover of OMV Slovenija and was subject to various conditions including clearance by the Slovenian Competition Authorities. The handover of the 39 divested stations is planned to start in October.

Following its acquisition of OMV Slovenija’s network in July 2023, MOL Group and INA as a member, with more than 130 service stations emerged as a strong number two in the Slovenian fuel market, looking to make a significant improvement to the security of supply in the country. In the upcoming days rebranding of the first ex-OMV, now MOL&INA station in Murska Sobota will begin and gradually, within H1 2024 all MOL&INA stations we be rebranded, out of which 27 will operate under the INA brand. Customers on the Slovenian market will also benefit from this joint acquisition, including transit customers who travel through Slovenia, also Croats, who will have more locations with recognizable brands that they are used to.

According to plans, upon completion of Rijeka Refinery Upgrade Project, INA will become the first-choice fuel supplier of the whole MOL Group’s service station network in Slovenia.
