Geothermal Energy and New Energy
Strategy for the development of green projects in INA
• By stepping into renewable energy sources, INA wants to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company. It also wants to contribute to the reduction of emissions and the green goals of Croatia and the European Union, and to continue contributing to the economic development of the country, as well as regional and local communities.
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY AND NEW ENERGY
• Exploration and production of geothermal energy is a new and key activity of the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, which aims to create the basis for INA’s transition into a sustainable energy company.
• Using existing knowledge and expertise acquired during oil and gas exploration; drilling and equipping several thousand wells for 60 years; expertise in the field of geophysics, geology, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, production processes… INA has all the prerequisites for the successful growth and development of geothermal projects.
• In addition to geothermal projects, INA E&P develops and promotes other types of projects in the spectrum of low-carbon and sustainable solutions as fundamental determinants of INA Group’s strategy.
Geothermal research
INA has permits for the exploration of geothermal waters in two research areas in the Republic of Croatia:
• Leščan: The permit for the exploration of geothermal resources was granted in the last quarter of 2023 for a period of 5 years. The research area Leščan, with an area of 55.65 km2, is located mostly in the area of the town of Đurđevac and the municipalities of Kalinovac and Kloštar Podravski. As part of the exploration works, INA plans to carry out geophysical measurements and drill exploration wells.
• Međimurje 5: A permit for the exploration of geothermal waters was also granted in the last quarter of 2023 for a period of 5 years. The investigation area Međimurje 5, with an area of 17.39 km2, is located in the municipality of Selnica and Sveti Juraj. As part of the exploration work, INA plans to carry out geophysical measurements and drill exploration wells.
• In both areas, INA is conducting research activities to confirm the assumed potential of geothermal resources for future electricity production.
